Afterschooling

It’s not just the name of the place kids go to kill time until their parents pick them up from school.  It’s the name for what us parents who don’t homeschool do to raise the children we want to create.  I am one of those parents who think that my children do not belong to me, they belong to the world.  I am doing my best to raise great citizens, but I also want to imprint myself on them.  I want them to learn what I learned and I want them to learn what I liked, even if it does not become their “like” too.  Sometimes afterschooling is the dojo where I take my son to be a ninja (his words, not mine) and my daughter to learn self defense.  Sometimes it is the car trip to Michigan to pick peaches and hit the dunes.  Somtimes it is tickets to the Lyric to experience ”Carmen” for the very first time.
